First disciplined attempt using the Zone System. Decided to lock my F80s in full manual mode and set the meter to 'SPOT'. One roll of Tri-X 400 (set to ASA400) and a looong walk around my village. You can view the results by clicking on this link to my gallery.

It was a lovely low-contrast day, so zoning was quite easy. Each photo has captions / comments showing the process of visualization that I went through in creating the shot. All in all, I'm a very happy camper!

Black and white photography is strangely very stimulating for me. Probably because in many ways, it is much easier to create a beautiful photograph in the conditions that we live in here in Manila. The city tends to be very dull when it comes to color... dusty, dirty and dull. But it does have texture. It has light and shade.

Using the Zone System, specifically its emphasis on pre-visualization, allows the black and white photographer to easily find the dramatic in the every day dull and dirty.
